Ordering Your Custom Pet Portrait

The Basics
Cross-stitch portraits start at $200. Pricing is based on how complex the coloring is; each portrait goes through a trial and error process to get the coloring just right. Payment is taken at the time of your order via Venmo. To request a quote, email me at jgilbert816@gmail.com with some details of what you'd like and a couple photos of the pet. Cross-stitch portraits can take up to 4 weeks to complete. The description and image below represent a base, standard package and below are some FAQs about customization options.
FAQ
What should we know about sending you reference photos?
-Reference photos can be screenshots. I'll ask for about 10 photos of your pet, but will ask for more if needed. The best photo will have a simple background, will be clear and well lit, and will have your pet facing just off camera. I also like to know the pets' names and a little bit about them.
How many hours go into each project?
-Each cross-stitch takes me approximately 40 hours.
What goes into each portrait beyond stitching?
-Before I start on a portrait, I sift through the reference photos and edit the images together to get the perfect portrait to work from. Next, I do some trial and error until I’m able to get a good pattern to work from. Once I’m happy with the pattern, I’m ready to stitch. When it’s finished, I frame the portrait.
What if I need the piece by a certain date?
-Definitely reach out! Some portraits can take as little as 2 weeks to complete, though rush orders can cost more. It never hurts to ask.
Can I order a larger or smaller size?
-The standard size I make the portraits in lends itself well to the photorealism of viewing the portrait from a step back, then seeing the detail close up. You can always reach out and ask about sizing variations. It may work better on some pets than others.
Can you do different colored backgrounds?
-Yes! There is a small range of choices when it comes to background colors. Just ask, and we can talk about options.
Can you do any animal? Will you do a person?
-The process does work with any animal! I have done birds, rabbits, dogs, and cats. I find the ones that look best have a lot of soul in their eyes. I have yet to do a person portrait, but it would work all the same!
Can you include text, like the name of my pet or dates?
-Yes! Just mention it when placing your order.
Can you finish it in a hoop instead of a frame?
-Yes! Though I do prefer a frame, just in terms of the peice collecting dust.
Can you do a portrait in grayscale?
-Yes! Just mention it when placing your order.
Do you take photos during the process?
-Yes! I'll usually send 2 photos or more to let you know how far along it is. If you want a lot of progress photos, just ask!
What if I want to frame it myself?
-Just let me know and I can mount it on an 8x8 board for you to frame. I do recommend a mat or a shadow box, to keep the stitches from being pushed up against the glass/plexi of the frame.
Can you ship outside of the US?
-Yes! The cost will be affected according to international shipping rates.
Can you gift wrap the piece before mailing it?
-Yes! Just let me know if it’s being sent directly as a gift and that you'd like it wrapped.
